Vast Kazakh steppe landscape at golden hour

Our Story

From the Kazakh Steppe to Dubai Marina

A Taste of Home, Far From Home

Almaty Restaurant is named after the largest city and former capital of Kazakhstan — a city that sits at the foot of the Tian Shan mountains, where the air is crisp and the food is rich with centuries of nomadic tradition. Our founders came to Dubai with a singular mission: to bring the authentic, uncompromised taste of the Kazakh steppe to the UAE — for the Central Asian community living abroad who miss the flavours of home, and for the adventurous food lovers of Dubai who seek something genuinely different.

The Sourcing Story

What sets Almaty apart is our commitment to authenticity at every level. Our meat is sourced directly from Kazakhstan — not a marketing claim, but a logistics operation we take enormous pride in. The kazy (horse sausage) you taste here is the real thing. Our lagman noodles are hand-pulled fresh each morning by our chefs, stretched and folded in the traditional way. Our recipes are not adapted or 'modernised' — they are the same dishes that have been served on the Kazakh steppe for generations.

What is Kazakhstani Cuisine?

Beshbarmak

The national dish of Kazakhstan. The name means 'five fingers' — because it was traditionally eaten by hand. A generous platter of boiled meat (lamb, beef, or horse) served over wide, flat handmade noodles, with a rich broth ladled on top. It is the centrepiece of every Kazakh celebration.

Manty

Large steamed dumplings filled with seasoned minced meat and onions. Unlike Chinese or Japanese dumplings, Central Asian manty are substantial — a meal in themselves. The dough is thin, the filling is generous, and the steam releases an aroma that fills the room.

Lagman

Hand-pulled noodles in a rich, spiced broth with tender beef and vegetables. The art of pulling lagman noodles is a skill passed down from master to apprentice. Watch our chefs stretch a single piece of dough into dozens of perfect noodle strands.

Kazy

A traditional horse meat sausage and a Kazakh delicacy. Prepared from choice rib meat, seasoned with garlic and spices, and smoked or cured. For Kazakhs, kazy is a symbol of hospitality — served to honoured guests at important gatherings.

Baursak

Traditional fried bread — golden, pillowy, and slightly sweet. Served at every celebration, from weddings to holidays. At Almaty, we offer complimentary baursak with every reservation as a gesture of Kazakh hospitality.
